Damn, I've been coming here for almost 30 years and it's just as good now as it was when I first came in with my Koryukan crew for jerk chicken and pesto tortellini. I love this place, and I love that it really hasn't changed very much over the years. They still do what they do and they do it amazingly well. Never change, Eats.
If you want simple food in a simple settings for an extremely affordable price, you need to check out Eats. The parking is okay since we turned in from the Whole Goods parking lot. When you enter the restaurant very old school quaint decor. The best part was the smell - seasoning and warm food. Like a kitchen after roasting something in the oven. We ordered at the counter straight ahead and grabbed a seat. They called our name and we got the Chicken Lasagna and the chicken special. The lemon pepper chicken was good reminded me of a better Publix. The rice and beans were okay. Some may want additional hot sauce but it was good for me and my sensitive stomach. I didn't care for the corn bread but I'm not big on cornbread anyway. The lasagna was good and we like the fact the sauce was on the side and then he was able to add garlic and peppers to spice it up to his palate. I will define back to try to BBQ chicken special and another patron said I must try to meatloaf.
Came here on a Sunday afternoon and I honestly was shocked with how empty it was since it was posted in one of the "must try" books we found. You order in the front, find a seat, and pick it up when they called your name. They have daily special for $10 and my boyfriend and I ended up ordering this. The daily special that day was BBQ Chicken Special which consisted of black beans, rice, chicken, and cornbread. For $10, we were surprised with how big the portion sizes were. On top of that, it was delicious! The chicken was very juicy and flavorful. The black beans were also tasty and didn't need any additional salt. The rice was useful for both the beans and the chicken. The cornbread was a bit dry but for $10, you can't find a meal like this anywhere else. It was also a great type of comfort food and reminded me of the old days where people can just sit and relax without worrying about a thing. The staffs were also very friendly. Would I be back? Yes!
My friends were visiting in town and found this place online. Since they had just landed, we timed our arrival to be right when they opened. We were surprised to see there were already people who had food by the time we walked in. Orders are placed at the front and called out when ready. We shared their garlic bread which was soft and well toasted. For plates I got their turkey meatloaf and found it to be classically prepared. I loved the gravy on the mashed potatoes. Cornbread was a little dry but came complimentary on eat place. Broccoli casserole was creamy and cheesy. I really enjoyed the lemon pepper chicken more than the jerk chicken but that is also because I am not a big charred flavor kind of gal. The black beans and rice was a little bland but found the collard greens to be well braised. Mac n cheese was similar to the broccoli casserole. Overall, we had a good time in this comfortable and casual place. It seems to be a local favorite as the patrons here weren't just your typical tourists. Would come again!
Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it was very empty with just one or two booths occupied. They're known for jerk chicken, but there were specials for the day, and that day it was BBQ chicken which we got, and came with beans, cornbread, and rice and the portion was huge so we split just one meal between two of us and we barely finished, all for about $10! The chicken was super juicy and full of flavor, both over the skin with the sauce, as well as in the meat. Ambiance wasn't the best since it was so empty, there was a homeless guy who came in, but the staff was nice and helpful and I did not feel unsafe. Definitely worth the price and probably my one recommendations for anyone else visiting Atlanta.
Perhaps the best restaurant I've been to. Ambiance? Excellent. Food? Delicious, cheap, and good portion sizes. Staff are always nice, always a really homey atmosphere. No better place for true soul food, never left hungry!
The food was like stepping back into my Grandmother's kitchen!! I really appreciated how the staff made us feel welcome immediately! It's like stepping back into time eating at this amazing restaurant!
Unbelievably delicious! Hands down the best chicken I've had. I have this as a must stop when I'm in town. The sides also never disappoint. Very reasonably priced and perfect sized portions.
Best Jerk chicken and all the vegetables are on point people are awesome service is the bomb I can't say another about the Soul food best around anywhere it makes my trip to Atlanta GA. worth while and I'd drive back just to eat here again
Eats is such a gem. I'm so glad that they are still surviving despite everything going up around it. The food is simple, affordable, and straightforward you just have to know what to get. My favorite is the Lemon Pepper Chicken. You get a 1/2 chicken well seasoned for less than $7. I normally order that with the mashed potatoes and gravy and a side salad. They used to offer meals but now everything is a La carte. Which is still reasonable priced. Sides are about $3. They also offer pastas like lasagna, spaghetti and ziti. The black beans and rice have no flavor. Neither does the Mac and cheese. Service is minimal. There are no waiters you place your order at the counter and choose from whatever seats are available and once your order is ready you pick it up at the counter. There are guys that come by and clear the tables after customers eat. It's super low key nothing fancy, family and kid friendly. No reservations whole in the wall vibes, but nonetheless a true classic. If you're looking for good food at a great price you can't go wrong with Eats
